We are delighted to have received a record number of entries for this
event.
13 different clubs are competing over the weekend with 79 Fours on
Saturday and 104 small boats on Sunday.
This does, however create some logistical problems. We are
doing what we can to reduce these but we will need help from all
competitors to ensure that everyone can enjoy their experience in
Aberdeen (whether competing, umpiring or organising).
So could we ask for your help with the following;
Parking near the boathouses will be a problem.
Visitors from outside Aberdeen do not have a choice but could local
people try to use public transport, car-share or get on your bike!
Try to arrive early. There will be a lot
of congestion in unloading areas and for assembling boats.
Similarly, the launching areas will be very busy
- please allow extra time for this.
We have modified the local rule regarding
time penalties - crews must be on the water at
least 15 minutes before their start time (no change to this rule)
and must be downstream of the QE2 Bridge at least 10
minutes (previously 5 minutes) prior to their race.
Please read the
Local Rules and study the map. Ensure that
inexperienced crews know the score. With the large number of
entrants, we will probably be marshalling boats all along the north
(City) bank from the Victoria Bridge up to the QE2 Bridge. Follow
advice of marshals in this area and (again) please get into position in
plenty time - if everyone tries to get into position 10 minutes prior to
the start time it will become a shambles (and, yes, I am speaking
particularly to the more senior/experienced crews in Aberdeen at this
point!)
Finally, a plea to the Aberdeen rowing community
- if you are free at any time (perhaps only rowing in one division)
please come along to Regatta Control (upstairs in ABC) and see if you
can help with administration
The
start order
is available here. Looking forward
to seeing you at the weekend.
